Alfred Meakin Birds of America shelf

As of July 2007, we no longer buy anything in this pattern except serving pieces and bowls.  We are completely sold out of 9-inch and 11-inch plates and will not restock.  We still have a good selection of 6-inch plates if you are seeking those.  We also have a few cups, some saucers for cups, and a good selection of cream soup saucers.  We have had some great pieces recently including cereal and fruit bowls (now sold).  We are always looking for more serving pieces and bowls, and have had some success in finding them in the last few years (see photos below).  Please bookmark this page, and check back now and then.  We do not maintain a want list because we cannot supply the many requests we get for bowls and serving pieces.

If you are considering using these or similar dishes as tableware, read our discussion on safety as it relates to china.   Visit our ordering page to read about our guarantee, and for information on sales tax, shipping, and forms of payment.  Please click on thumbnails to enlarge the images.

WE ARE NO LONGER PURCHASING ANYTHING IN THIS PATTERN EXCEPT SERVING PIECES AND BOWLS.  PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE  PLATES TO SELL.

Plates pictured are 8-7/8 inches with embossed rim. Designs vary slightly based on the size of the piece.  Notice that Meakin based the pattern numbers on the plate numbers in Audubon's Double Elephant Folio. All plates we carry are similar in color. the The variation in the photos is due to lighting.

Condition is based on the degree of crazing, associated staining, and losses to the transfer (design). We grade (good, very good, or excellent) based on our overall assessment of the piece relative to other Meakin pieces. We do not sell Meakin pieces with noticeable chips, cracks, or significant problems with the transfer, but if the piece is rare and there is a rim nick, we may offer it with a full description of the problem. Contact us specifying type of piece, SIZE, bird, and condition preferences, and we will provide prices and options.

The prices below show the range we charge for a given piece, and are not updated to reflect availability.  Generally, most pieces are in very good condition.  Among the pieces we have available as of March 2007 are

HARD-TO-FIND PIECES --

Meakin made a large variety of pieces in this pattern.  At various times we have had a platter, oval vegetable bowls, cereal bowls, fruit bowls, rimmed soup plates, and cream soups.  These pieces are rare, and therefore tend to be quite expensive.  Read on to see what we have in stock now, and what we have had in the past.

RECENTLY AVAILABLE -- SORRY, ALL BOWLS ARE NOW SOLD

We have eight cereal bowls (not all birds) and eight fruit bowls.  Below shows the birds available in each size (cereal on the left, fruit on the right).  Cereal bowls measure 6-1/4 inches in diameter and have medium depth (around 2 inches deep).  They cost $50-$65.   The fruit bowls are small and shallow, measuring 5 inches in diameter and about 1 inch deep.  These cost $35-$45.
