print room: John James Audubon
octavo prints from The
Quadrupeds of North America
(mostly later editions, some firsts mixed in)
Audubon octavo prints are hand-colored stone lithographs taken from one of the octavo-sized editions
of Audubon's work. The octavo editions of The Quadrupeds of North America
were produced by Audubon's sons, John Woodhouse Audubon (who was the artist
responsible for about half the plates in this series) and Victor Gifford Audubon
(who provided many of the beautiful backgrounds). Most prints shown on
this page are from an 1856 volume (unless otherwise noted). Also available
are a few prints we bought as singles from a first edition set. Feel
free to contact us for
detailed condition information and for scans of prints not pictured. Be
sure to scroll all the way down the page to see all prints.
